Sentim is an independent hearing center located in the heart of Palma, on San Miguel Street, with over 20 years of experience serving people with hearing loss in Mallorca. We offer free comprehensive audiometry, recommend the hearing aid that best suits your needs, and let you try it out without obligation for as long as you need.
Why do people in Palma choose Sentim for their hearing aids?
When someone starts to notice they're not hearing as well as they used to, the first question isn't usually "which hearing aid to buy." It's "where do I go?" And the difference between going to a national chain and walking into a hearing centre in Palma like ours, it's noticeable from the first visit. That first visit includes free hearing aid trial, free of charge and without obligation to buy.
In Mallorca there are 4.6 million Spaniards with some degree of hearing loss according to the National Institute of Statistics, but only the 39 % uses hearing aids. The main reason isn't the price: it's that many people don't feel comfortable with the service they receive. Talk to five people who wear hearing aids and you'll see a pattern. They'll tell you about the rush, the aggressive discounts, the feeling of being "sold" rather than listened to.
Our center is independent, family-oriented, and pressure-free.
What exactly do we do at our hearing center in Palma?
At our center on San Miguel Street, we offer a complete hearing care process in a single initial visit: audiometry, personalized diagnosis, hearing aid recommendation, and a trial. If you decide to get a hearing aid after the trial, we will provide follow-up care and check-ups for the entire duration of your hearing aid use.
These are the services we cover in the center of Palma:
- Complete pure-tone and speech audiometry, done in a booth and by a qualified professional, completely free of charge.
- Otoscopy to check the condition of the ear canal before any test.
- Advice on types of hearing aids (RIC, BTE, ITE and invisible) and which one fits your level of loss.
- Real hearing aid test in your daily life, in your home, with your conversations and your usual noises.
- Tailor-made and personalized programming based on the real data of your life.
- Inspections, reprogramming and cleaning throughout the lifetime of the hearing aid, at no additional cost.
- Advice on care, maintenance and cleaning of the hearing aid.
- Childcare with hearing test for children and referral to an otolaryngologist when appropriate.
We don't sell hearing aids from a catalog. We work on each case from the audiometry stage, and we only recommend what truly fits your life.
Why choose an independent hearing center instead of a chain?
The most tangible difference is that an independent center doesn't have corporate sales targets to meet with you. In a chain, the audiologist treating you usually has a monthly sales quota and a catalog restricted to one or two brands with which the chain has an agreement. In an independent center, that pressure doesn't exist.
This translates into three very tangible things:
- They offer hearing aids from any manufacturer, not only those distributed by the chain. Sentim works with all the premium brands in the audiology sector (Phonak, Oticon, Signia, Widex, ReSound, Starkey).
- The recommendation is based on technical criteria, not on profit margin. If a cheaper alternative works just as well for your level of loss, that's what's being proposed.
- The interlocutor does not rotate. You'll always be seen by the same person, from your first audiometry test to your follow-up appointments in three years. They'll get to know your history and how your memory has evolved.
To better understand how a hearing aid differs according to your level of hearing loss and lifestyle, we have prepared a Guide to types of hearing aids: RIC, BTE, ITE and invisible which reviews each format with its pros and cons.
What is the first visit to our hearing center in Palma like?
The first visit lasts between 45 minutes and an hour and is always free. There's no cost, no obligation, and nothing needs to be signed. You come in, we perform a complete hearing test, and we explain the results to you in plain language.
The order of the visit is always the same:
- Initial conversation for about 10 minutes. We ask you what you notice, since when, in what situations it is most noticeable (in meetings, watching TV, at the table with the family), if you have been told that you turn up the volume, if it has happened in one of your two ears more than in the other.
- Otoscopy. A visual examination of the ear canal is performed using an instrument called an otoscope. This helps to rule out earwax buildup or any other abnormalities in the ear canal that could affect the audiometry results.
- Pure-tone and speech audiometry in a soundproof booth. It's a test that measures your hearing threshold at each frequency. It lasts about 20-25 minutes and is completely painless.
- Explanation of the audiogram. We'll show it to you on screen, explain what each line means, and at which frequencies your hearing loss is most noticeable. No technical jargon.
- Personalized recommendation. If you have hearing loss, we'll explain what type of hearing aid would be best, what price range it has, and how the test would work.
If after the initial visit you decide to try a hearing aid, you can take it home. No payment, no paperwork. You can try it out in your everyday life for as long as you need. Only if you decide to keep it do we formalize the fitting.
